E. (Emma) Verwaaijen

Pediatric physiotherapist
As a pediatric physiotherapist and researcher, I primarily focus on physically vulnerable children with cancer. My projects aim to identify physical incapabilities during treatment using appropriate assessment tools. We develop complex (prehabilitation) interventions designed to strengthen the musculoskeletal system and functional skills, with a focus on participation in daily life, play, and sports throughout different phases of treatment. By understanding which specific treatments cause a decline in physical functioning, we can develop risk profiles for children and adolescents who are at risk of physical vulnerability and/or limitations during treatment.
