Vision

Innovation is part of the DNA of the Princess Máxima Center. We are a research hospital focused on integrating care, research, and education. In close collaboration with our partners, we develop new treatments and interventions. Together, we aim to cure every child with cancer, with the best possible quality of life.

Helping children and teenagers ‘get better better’, that is the mission of the Princess Máxima Center. For us, everything centers on the well-being of the child, survivor, parents, and family, from the moment a cancer diagnosis is made. Our ambition is high: free of disease, with as little pain and stress as possible, as few side effects and complications as possible, and as little lasting harm as possible. With minimal disruption to the child’s development, and with attention to the impact on the entire family.

Two core values guide our daily work: pushing boundaries and passion. Together, they form the shortest possible summary of what the Máxima Center stands for. Innovation runs through everything we do. We provide an environment where professionals can thrive, within dedicated teams that continually strive to give their very best for children and families. People with ambition and the drive to keep improving feel at home here. Our culture does not stem from a set of ‘rules of conduct’, but from an intrinsic motivation that we nurture and strengthen together. As an organization, we act with strong social commitment and an eye for sustainability. This means we remain constantly aware of our role in society and take responsibility for all the resources entrusted to us.

Moving forward together

In recent years, much has been achieved to bring our mission closer. At the same time, there is still much to be done. Our strategic multi-year plan for 2024–2028 focuses on three strategic themes:

  1. Innovation

  2. Organization

  3. Collaboration

Through intensive interaction between research and care, we accelerate the translation of fundamental, preclinical, and clinical research into clinical practice. At the same time, it is essential, while remaining firmly rooted in existing partnerships, to take further steps toward internationalization. Only within an international network can the core of our work with children, survivors, and parents truly flourish.

Our strategic multi-year plan describes how we want to move forward together in the coming years. We aim to achieve results in two key parts of our mission: increased survival through more effective treatments, and a better quality of life and survivorship, with fewer side effects, complications, and late effects through less harmful treatments. We strive for a positive experience of care and care processes for children and parents. Parents and children feel optimally supported during and after treatment. We pay particular attention to transition moments in treatment and to the development of growing children and teenagers.
