JACIE Accreditation for Stem Cell Transplantation

The Princess Máxima Center and the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital both have a WMBV license from the ministry to perform allogeneic (with donor cells) and autologous (with the patient's own stem cells) transplantation in children. A condition for this is JACIE accreditation.

JACIE is the European inspection agency for stem cell transplantation. Recently, the JACIE accreditation was renewed. This means the stem cell transplantation center complies with all laws and regulations to perform stem cell transplantation in children.

The stem cell transplantation department is a collaboration between the Princess Máxima Center and the WKZ/UMC Utrecht. In the transplantation center, children with cancer are treated as well as children from the WKZ with conditions such as a metabolic disease. All transplantations for children take place in the Princess Máxima Center.

JACIE

The Joint Accreditation Committee-ISCT & EBMT (JACIE) is a non-profit institution with the objective of assessing and accrediting the process of stem cell transplantation.

The primary goal of JACIE is to promote high-quality patient care and laboratory processes in the field of harvesting, processing, and transplanting stem cells. This is an internationally recognized accreditation system. This JACIE accreditation needs to be renewed every four years. At that time, it is assessed whether a hospital still meets the strict quality requirements.
