PET scan

PET scans (Positron Emission Tomography) visualize abnormalities in organs and tissues. To perform a PET scan, a small amount of radioactive fluid is injected into a vein.

PET scans are always performed together with a CT scan.

Your child lies on a table that slides slowly through the round opening of the PET-CT scanner. Each time the table moves up a bit, a series of photos is taken. Your child must lie still for a while. A vacuum mattress can help keep your child comfortable. Young children are sedated.

There are different types of PET-CT scans. The letter you receive from the appointment office provides detailed information on the examination your child will undergo.

Should you need any further information, please feel free to ask.
