Brachytherapy

Brachytherapy is a kind of radiotherapy. Radiation destroys tumor cells. The cells can no longer divide, causing the tumor to shrink and eventually disappear. Brachytherapy involves placing radioactive material inside the body to avoid affecting the healthy cells.
Beforehand

When the tumor is surgically removed, the pediatric surgeon inserts several hollow tubes via which the radiation treatment is later provided. The radiotherapist will discuss with you how often and for how long your child will receive radiotherapy as well as the length of intervals between treatments.

Radiotherapy

Your child will remain in a special room for a few days. You must leave the room while the radiation is administered, but otherwise you can stay with your child.

More detailed information is provided in the Brachytherapy brochure. Please note this brochure is currently only available in Dutch.
