This warning system is two-fold:
- We measure important bodily functions, such as heart rate and breathing
- We monitor special circumstances, such as:
- Parental unease
- Concern of doctor or nurse
- The treatment (operation, stem cell transplantation, medication)
As a parent, you play an important part in the warning system. You know your child best and know what is normal and what is not, so we listen carefully to what you have to say and take your instincts seriously.
You can ask the doctor or nurse of the department for more information about the Dutch PEWS.
