Development-oriented care

The Princess Máxima Center aims to not only give children with cancer the best treatment, but also help them to lead as normal a life as possible and to continue to develop, despite their illness. We always put the interests of the child and family first. We call this development-oriented care.

Development-oriented care in practice

We help your child to continue functioning normally, both physically, cognitively (at school), emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. We also encourage your child to continue to develop.

Therefore, in everything we do, we ask ourselves:

  • how do we reduce the stress
  • how do we communicate as efficiently as possible
  • how are we as hospitable as possible
  • how do we ensure that the child and parents are central
  • what does this mean for the quality of life now and later?

Patient care

  • Our medical pedagogical workers provide preparation for your child and give appropriate guidance and information to prevent stress
  • All our professionals know how to recognize signals of stress
  • We consider it important to follow the development of your child and your family during and after treatment via the KLIK portal.

Building and interior design
Our building and gardens have been specifically created in order to support regular family life, stimulate the development of children and help reduce stress.

Maximum distraction
Our activities and events reduce stress, provide distraction and entertainment and strengthen the interaction between children and parents.

Innovation and research
  • We look into the effect of the results of our care for the quality of life and the development of the child
  • We develop and evaluate (care-innovative) methods that stimulate the development and improve the quality of life of children and parents.

Education

  • We make new employees aware of our vision on development-oriented care.
  • We teach them the importance of development-oriented care in order to reduce stress.
