OR, ICU & ER

The Princess Máxima Center works closely with the UMC Utrecht (University Medical Center)/Wilhelmina Children's Hospital in areas such as surgery, intensive care and radiotherapy.

Surgery Center

The surgery center is located on the second floor of the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital (WKZ) and is called Dromedaris. You get here via the color bridge. There are eight operating rooms. You can read more about surgery here.

Children's ICU

The intensive care unit (ICU) is located on the Pelican ward on the second floor of the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital. In the ICU, your child is constantly monitored. You may be with your child for 24 hours, but you cannot sleep next to your child.

Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy is located at the back of UMC Utrecht, next to the Emergency Department (ED). There is a special radiation room for children. There is a parking lot near the entrance to the radiotherapy department. You can read more about radiotherapy here.

Radiology

Radiological examinations (imaging examinations) are used to visualize organs and parts of the body. Many radiological examinations, such as ultrasound, lung X-rays and scans, are performed at the Máxima hospital, but for some tests children cross the color bridge to the UMC Utrecht/ Wilhelmina Children's Hospital. The appointment letter tells you where your child needs to be.

Outpatient clinics in the WKZ or UMC Utrecht

For certain examinations or checks, children go to the WKZ or UMC Utrecht, for example for an eye examination. The appointment letter tells you where your child needs to be.
