Visual guidance for parents at home

What if parents still have questions after their child’s first discharge? A new webpage with explainer videos supports them at home – using plain language, relatable situations, and visual cues.

For many parents, the first few days at home after being discharged from the Princess Máxima Center are exciting. While they always have direct access to doctors and nurses in the center, at home they suddenly have to manage on their own. So it’s no surprise that many parents still have questions. That’s why the project Going home – what now? was launched, as part of the Quality of Life program 'Visual information for parents and children'. Together with parents and healthcare professionals, we explored which topics cause the most uncertainty at home. Their input led to a practical webpage with short explainer videos: Help for parents after the first discharge.

What the explainer videos cover

The videos offer clear explanations on practical topics like fever, fasting, nutrition, or when to call the Máxima Center. They use visual support and familiar situations to make the information easy to understand. Each video is voiced by a Máxima healthcare professional, which adds recognition and trust.

All information in one place

All the information is now bundled in one convenient location: Help for parents after the first discharge. Parents receive a QR-code sticker during the discharge conversation, which is also placed in their diary planner. This allows them to easily return to the information whenever needed.

The webpage currently includes seven themes. After the summer, four new topics will follow – such as shared care, lifestyle rules, and the impact on family life and relationships. The content will continue to grow based on parents’ needs: we monitor which questions come up and update the page accordingly.
